PUERTO VILLARROEL FISHING – ECO TOURISM TOUR

Just 4.5 hours’ drive from Santa Cruz is the perfect destination for those looking for fishing and a nature getaway.

This 2 or 3 day tour takes you to the sleepy fishing port of Puerto Villarroel, where we embark via boat exploring a series of rivers and lagoons with the aim to catch Surubi, Piranah, General Catfish Pacu and even Peacock Bass.  Don’t expect world class fishing, this is a trip a beautiful part of Bolivia and with luck will have a nighty BBQ with freshly captured fish.  During this tour you will be fishing and camping in remote areas including private lagoons and main river systems. Night fishing for larger species of Catfish of up to 20 kilograms is also possible.

If you don’t like fishing then this is not a problem, Pink Dolphin watching here is excellent as well as amazing nature, bird watching and wildlife. This area is teeming with wildlife and we can arrange treks to look for Macaws, Monkeys, Peccaries, Capybara and if lucky even traces of Jaguar or Anaconda which frequent the remote areas.

As part of these excursions we can even stay overnight in an indigenous community and help them prepare naturally grown cocoa as well as other Amazon fruits and foods. We suggest this as we aim to help them gain employment from these tours in which they can better protect their natural environment. We also can visit a cattle ranch which has Jaguars, Tapirs, Monkeys and much more, tours will help to cover cattle losses as on this section of the river Jaguars are sadly still killed.

These tours are very flexible and can be arranged just as a fishing tour or as ecotourism package where we combine fishing, wildlife watching, pink river dolphin observation, visiting remote lagoons and indigenous community visits.

** We can also arrange an extension to these tours to visit very untouched regions and lagoons where very few people enter. These tours need to be reserved in advance, extra days are required and include visiting lagoons with very large fish, black caimans and even large Anaconda.
