Overview

About This Experience

Santa Cruz de la Sierra is Bolivia’s largest, most dynamic city — tropical, fast-growing, modern and full of contrasts. This flexible private 4-hour experience is not a rushed fixed itinerary: it’s a relaxed, locally guided introduction to a city that most travellers pass through without really seeing. History, culture, food, local markets, modern neighbourhoods, and even the occasional urban wildlife encounter — all combined around what interests you most.

Santa Cruz is very different from the highland cities of Bolivia. It is tropical, chaotic, colourful, and shaped by cattle-ranching, oil, and agricultural wealth rather than colonial silver. On this private tour, we help you understand the city beyond the usual tourist areas — from the historic colonial centre and local markets to modern developments, residential zones, local food culture, and green areas where wildlife can sometimes be found.

Nick’s Adventures Bolivia has been running city experiences in Santa Cruz since the 1990s, and our guides know parts of the city that no tourist map acknowledges. Tell us what interests you and we build the route around that. No two tours are identical.

Flexible Itinerary

What Can We Visit?

Because this is a fully flexible private tour, the exact route is adapted to your interests, available time, traffic, and conditions on the day. Below are the possible stops — we design the experience around what matters most to you.

Plaza 24 de Septiembre & Historic Centre

The heart of Santa Cruz — colonial architecture, the cathedral, local street life, and shaded plazas that trace the city's story from its 1561 founding to Bolivia's most important economic hub today.

Local Markets & Everyday Santa Cruz Life

Tropical fruits, traditional ingredients, local snacks, and natural products. A great way to experience the real rhythm of the city and understand daily life beyond the tourist areas.

Food, Tropical Fruits & Local Snacks

Sample fresh juices, traditional snacks, and flavours shaped by tropical, cattle-ranching, and lowland influences — a food culture very different from the Andes and unique to eastern Bolivia.

Coca Culture in Bolivia

Understand the traditional and legal use of coca leaves — an important part of Bolivian culture that is widely misunderstood internationally, and essential context for any visitor to the country.

Modern Santa Cruz & Urobó

See how fast the city is expanding — modern commercial zones, private gated communities, and the Urobó residential district that contrast sharply with the colonial historic centre.

Short Urban Wildlife Stop

Santa Cruz is one of the few South American cities where wildlife can still be spotted near urban areas. Depending on route and conditions, we may look for birds, sloths, or other local species. Sightings are never guaranteed. ★ Optional — route and conditions dependent
