Overview
Bolivia is one of South America’s most underrated trekking destinations. Its extraordinary altitudinal range — from Amazon jungle at 200 metres to Andean peaks above 6,000 metres — creates an unmatched diversity of terrain within a compact area. The Codo de los Andes near Samaipata is a geological anomaly where the Andes suddenly turn 90° into the lowlands, creating a dramatic cloud-forest-to-valley transition accessible in a single day hike. The Amboro National Park cloud forest harbors prehistoric giant fern groves found almost nowhere else on Earth.
Bolivia’s trekking routes stand out for their wilderness intensity and low visitor numbers. Routes through Kaa Iya National Park — South America’s largest tropical national park — cross Gran Chaco dry forest largely untouched by modern humanity. Madidi National Park offers Amazon jungle treks through one of the planet’s most biodiverse protected areas. And in the high Andes, Sajama National Park delivers Bolivia’s most dramatic mountain scenery with trekking beneath the country’s highest volcano.
All trekking programs are led by naturalist guides trained in the ecology of each region. Equipment recommendations, acclimatization advice, transport, food, and accommodation are handled end-to-end. Private departures allow complete flexibility in pacing and itinerary.

Day hikes such as the Amboro NP Tour and Samaipata walks require only a basic fitness level — comfortable walking for 4–6 hours on uneven terrain. Multi-day expeditions (Kaa Iya, Madidi, South Pantanal) require good fitness and prior hiking experience. We provide full pre-departure fitness guidance and gear lists at booking.
It depends on the destination. Lowland Amazon and Pantanal treks operate at 150–500 m — warm and humid with no altitude concerns. Samaipata and Amboro hikes operate at 1,500–2,500 m. The Sajama National Park expedition reaches over 4,000 m and requires prior acclimatization in La Paz.
For day hikes: sturdy hiking boots, sun protection, 2+ litres of water, a rain jacket, and a camera. For multi-day wilderness expeditions, Nick's Adventures provides a full gear list at booking. Specialized wilderness equipment — tents, sleeping bags, and cooking gear — is provided for remote expeditions.
