Bolivia is exceptional for wildlife photography precisely because it remains off the beaten path. Jaguars, giant anacondas, spectacled bears and pink river dolphins are photographed here in genuinely wild, unhurried conditions. The low tourism pressure means animals are unstressed and encounters are sustained — you photograph them in natural behaviour, not fleeting glimpses from a crowded jeep.
For large mammals and birds, a telephoto lens of 400–600mm is recommended. For jungle and macro work (herping, frogs, insects), a 100mm macro is invaluable. A sturdy tripod or monopod helps in low-light jungle conditions. Bring weather-sealed gear if possible — humidity and rain are factors in rainforest environments.
