Bolivia’s lowland jungle systems represent one of the great wildlife frontiers remaining on Earth. From the hyperdiverse rainforests of Madidi National Park — ranked by the World Conservation Society as potentially the most biodiverse protected area ever studied — to the open pampas of the Yucuma River, the vast Pantanal wetlands bordering Brazil, and the remote tepuy wilderness of Noel Kempff Mercado National Park, the Bolivian Amazon offers an extraordinary range of expedition experiences in landscapes almost entirely free of mass tourism.
Bolivia’s Amazon encompasses several distinct ecosystems, each with its own wildlife community and access profile. The Bolivian Pampas delivers open-habitat wildlife watching — Anacondas, Black Caimans, Capybaras, and the signature experience of swimming with wild Pink River Dolphins. Madidi National Park, accessible from Rurrenabaque by a 25-minute domestic flight from La Paz, supports over 1,000 bird species, Giant Otters, Jaguars, Tapirs and the Tacana indigenous community whose ecolodges are among the finest in South America. The Bolivian Pantanal and Kaa-Iya National Park form an immense transitional zone holding one of the densest populations of large cats in the country.

Rurrenabaque is served by 25-minute domestic flights from La Paz's El Alto Airport with Amaszonas Airlines. Flights can also be routed from Santa Cruz connecting through La Paz. Nick's Adventures Bolivia assists all clients with domestic flight bookings and arranges transfers at both ends. An overland option via the Yungas road (~18 hours) exists but flights are strongly recommended.
